Between the cities of Kiel in the south and Eckernförde in the north you find the region of the "Dänischer Wohld" ("The Danish Woods") with the city of Gettorf in its centre. The name "Dänischer Wohld" refers to the so-called "Isarnho", Danish for the "Iron Woods", that once covered all Schleswig-Holstein from Hamburg up to the Danish border. In the "Dänischer Wohld" large remainders of these woods could be found for quite a long time.
By now the woods have vanished almost completely from this region, too, and made room for a beautifully varied countryside and popular holiday destination.
