November 2011: A group of Red Ruffed Lemurs move to Gettorf

Red Ruffed Lemur Bungee

Since November 4th 2011 the Ring-tailed Lemurs at the monkey house of Tierpark Gettorf have some new neighbours. From Zoom-Erlebniswelt Gelsenkirchen a group of 4 Red Ruffed Lemurs moved to Schleswig-Holstein. Now we hope, that the females "Lucy", "Sina" and "Lilly" as well as the male "Bungee" will soon join the animal training at Tierpark Gettorf and maybe even take part in the public feeding of the lemurs.

April 2011: Six Galahs arrive at Tierpark Gettorf

Rosakakadus

Some changes occurred in the bird collection of Tierpark Gettorf in spring. The Lovebirds moved from their preliminary enclosure outside the birds' paradise hall into a newly built aviary between Africa exhibit and children's zoo. The disposable space in the walkthrough-area around the birds' paradise hall by now is occupied by three pairs of Galahs.

The six birds camd to us from the Netherlands and show no timidity towards men. So we are very glad we may present this beautiful and interesting species directly to our visitors without any separating barriers.

September 2010: Two Striped Skunks come to Tierpark Gettorf

Skunk

Since September we can present two new inhabitants to our visitors. "Ronald" and "Nancy", the Striped Skunks have moved to their new exhibit next to the Natureum.

At the moment they are still somewhat shy. During the nights, however, they performed their first investigative expeditions, as we could see from the digging traces in the exhibit.

We now hope that they will become somewhat bolder soon, so that we can present them to our visitors before the denning sets in.

May 2009: Armadillo "James" actually is a "Jane"!

During a routine examination keepers realized that there was in fact no difference in the structure of the genital region of our armadillos "James" and "Miss Sophie". Pictures were taken and sent to the zoos of origin of our armadillos. They confirmed our suspicion: "James actually is a "Jane"!

Now we have to look for another male, either a new James for Sophie or a Tarzan for newly identified Jane! However, since the two girls get along with each other quite nicely, we can take our time finding a new mate.
